A Dream.

This morning between waking and sleeping I had a War of the Worlds type dream. One of my fears is that War of the Worlds will come to life.  The dream goes, as I can remember it now.  Greg and I were packing to go to Texas, and I was in the basement.  I had this intuitive feeling that something was going to happen, so this is why we were packing to go there.  For some reason, in my mind, Texas was the safest place to be.  (It seems like a state that is the least vulnerable.  I don’t know why.)  Anyway, that is beside the point.

I was in the basement of a house that was similar to ours, but was more like a farm house.  We were in some kind of mix between a city and the country.  I remember vaguely there being a highway near the house, and there were a lot of cars and people on it.  All of a sudden the world around me fell silent, then I hear the call of one of the alien walkers.  The only thing I say to Greg is, “It’s happening, isn’t it?”  He didn’t say anything back to me, but I remember us looking out the window and seeing a Walker (that looked more like the Striders from Half-Life 2).  We were going to make a run for it, and I remember we were going to go out the front door.  Then, I heard a yell from the back.  We were on a wrap around porch, so I ran to the back of the house and there was a ship there!  The back of the ship was open and there was a scientist looking man, and my mom of all people.

I had this overwhelming sense that we were supposed to be on that ship and something bigger was going on.  Like we were the ones who were supposed to help save the Earth (where did this delusion of grandeur come from???).   I also remember everyone being there, and I mean everyone!  All of my family and friends. We make a run for the ship.  This ship had seats similar to an airplane near the opening, and I remember the ship having to take off really fast.  The back wasn’t quite closed and I remember I had to hang on or I would have fallen out.

Before the back closed I remember seeing the fields and trees that surrounded the house (they were very similar to what I remember seeing when my step-dad took me up in his powered parachute).  I realized we were heading up at a very sharp angle and eventually we were out of the atmosphere.  It was at that moment in my mind I thought, “I’m floating!  This must be what it feels like to be without gravity.”  That’s when the dogs barking woke me up, and I panicked for a second.  Then I realized that I needed to get up and get ready for work.   I did make sure to look out the window to see if everything was normal outside.
